VII. Double-Cross Watermark. Repeating horizontal chains of upright and inverted double crosses joined by a wavy line representing the triple hill.

The watermark occurs in both upright and sideways orientations. Its orientation usually depends on the format of the stamp, although both orientations may occur on stamps of the same format. The orientation of the watermark can be determined on any stamp. This is the first symmetrical watermark; because it has two axes of symmetry, no distinct watermark position can be determined.

Possible watermark orientations

• A: upright and inverted double crosses;
• B: double crosses lying to the left and right.

The sideways orientation is often referred to as Watermark VII/a.
