Countless publications on stamps and stamp collecting have appeared over the past century and more. The following works are particularly useful for anyone interested in Hungarian philately.

Monograph of Hungarian Stamps, Volumes I–VII (Ákos Kostyán, Pál Névi, László Makkai, Endre Vajda, Sándor Visnya, György Kun, Dr Ferenc Rend, Gyula Madarász and Ferenc Orbán). The monograph is also available online: Monograph of Hungarian Stamps. Printed copies can also regularly be found through online antiquarian booksellers and various marketplaces.

Handbook of Hungarian Stamps (edited by László Surányi and Gábor Visnyovszki). Collectors commonly refer to this 1986 publication simply as the Black Book. Copies can also be found through online antiquarian booksellers.

Stamp Book (Gábor Visnyovszki). A detailed guide to Hungary’s classic stamps, from the earliest issues through the Turul period, illustrated with beautiful colour images.

Catalogue of Hungarian Stamps. The regularly updated Hungarian stamp catalogue published by Philatelia Hungarica Kft. most recently appeared in 2023. Its catalogue numbers are also used as the basis for organising Hungarian stamps on tevnyomat.hu. The catalogue is available from most stamp dealers and from the post office, while earlier editions can also be purchased online.

Stamp Encyclopaedia (Andor Bér, Barna Fogarasi, László Surányi Sr and István Gazda). The encyclopaedia can be purchased from online antiquarian booksellers and selected dealers.

Journals and periodicals. Over the years, many prominent authors have published—and continue to publish—articles in periodicals such as Bélyegvilág, Bélyeg, Filatéliai Szemle and Philatelica. Many of these publications are available online through the Internet Stamp Collectors’ Club under its “Periodicals” section. Subscriptions to Bélyegvilág are available through the MABÉOSZ website. Issues of Philatelica can be downloaded from the MAFITT website. Its index is also worth consulting before exploring the large amount of material available.

The History of the Hungarian Stamp (Gabriella Nikodém and Jenő Szabó). Published in 2010 and illustrated with beautiful images, this book provides a broad overview of Hungarian stamps, the history of Hungarian stamp collecting, and the work of several stamp designers.
